This document will assist you in getting started. It is very important that you know how to properly shutdown you're PetKey and follow the necessary precautions that are necessary to ensure that both your PetKey and computer remain safe. Please adhere to the following guidelines: TIP: Before rebooting or starting your computer please remember to remove the PetKey Start Instructions: 1. With your computer on double click on My Computer. You can find My Computer either on your desktop or by clicking on the start button located in the lower left hand corner of your computer. Right click on the My Computer icon and select explore. After opening My Computer you will be able to see your PetKey. 2. If you are running Microsoft Windows XP-Service Pack 2 you will be able to double click on the Pet Key icon and the PetKey will automatically start. If you are running a different version of Windows please double click on the PetKey icon and the PetKey will open up. From here double click Pet_Key_Start.exe and the PetKey will start. TIP: To determine which version of Microsoft Windows your computer is using, begin by: Click START --> SETTINGS --> CONTROL PANEL At the top of menu: click HELP --> ABOUT WINDOWS 3. You must be running Windows 2000/XP/Millenium for the PetKey to function properly Due to security reasons the PetKey does not feature and automatic start. Shutdown Instructions: 1. When you are finished using the PetKey please close the application by clicking the Exit button found in the main portion of the application or by clicking the "X" button located in the top left portion of the PetKey application. 2. Next you must properly shutdown the PetKey USB drive. You may do this by performing one of the following: a. Locate the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray. The system tray can be found in the corner of your toolbar. Double-click the icon and select the "USB mass storage device". Then click on the stop button. b. Open My Computer as described above. Right Click on the PetKey drive icon and select eject. c. On your desktop you should see a PetKeyEject.bat file. Double click on this batch file and the PetKey USB drive will stop. d. Disengage the PetKey USB device from your computer TIP: As with all USB devices, you should always properly shutdown the PetKey.
